We currently offer Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, and Lymphatic Drainage Massage.
Swedish Massage offers long, flowing, rhythmic strokes, following the contours of the body. Using oil or lotion, the massage begins with light pressure which then increases to your comfort level, adding unique combinations of additional Swedish strokes of kneading, percussion, and friction. Swedish massage relieves painful muscle tension, improves circulation, decreases stress, stimulates the immune and lymphatic systems, promotes relaxation and supports injury recovery. Swedish massage is relaxing and therapeutic, providing a sense of well-being and bringing balance to the body/mind complex.
Deep Tissue Massage is a technique designed to access the deepest layers of the muscles through the fascia. Often the process of sinking deep into a problem area takes patience and communication between the practitioner and the body. While there can be pain associated with working on deep hypertension and adhesions, it should result in better range of motion, increased flexibility and decreased pain over time. Keeping the body relaxed as well as steady breathing is key in order to experience the best results when receiving Deep Tissue Massage.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage uses lighter, gentler pump-like and circular strokes to stimulate lymph and blood flow to eliminate toxins and lessen overall edema (swelling) in the body. It also promotes alleviation of stress and provides a calming, nurturing experience. Through the acceleration of lymph flow, stagnation is lessened and tissues are renewed for inflow of nutrients and building materials for cell regeneration and growth. The lymph system is a finely branched arrangement of vessels and capillaries present in all tissues throughout the body and especially numerous in the skin that act as filtration system and move substances between cells. Functions of the lymph system include draining interstitial fluid, transporting dietary fats, and protecting against invasion by caring out immune responses. These tasks make it a very important system to specifically address through a Lymph drainage massage.
*Ayurvedic massage, or Abhyanga therapy, which also promotes lymphatic drainage and increases circulation is soon to be offered. This ancient therapy uses your corresponding dosha-specific (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) medicated herbal oil for absorption into the body using rhythmic stroke patterns in promotion of balance and whole health.
